I voted for George W. Bush, but I think the Iraq war was a mistake and will cost us dearly in the long run. At this point however I think we canot leave until the job is done. Sometimes I don’t know what that last sentence means.
I think that we are heading towards a clash of civilizations. Not the Christian/Muslim clash so often discussed, but a relativist/fundamentalist clash. I hope the relativists win. I hope that when they win they stay relativists sufficiently deeply to allow fundamentalists that play nice with others to stick around.
Much of what Stephenson says in the essay linked to below I agree with.

So, Front Toward Enemy was initially intended to convey the idea of focusing on the important things. But the more I think about it the more it seems that getting the details right is important too.
